4% surcharge FREQUENTLY
We believe that hospitality & culinary arts are a career, not just a job. Like all other careers, we want to offer our employees affordable healthcare benefits and a living wage. Typically, restaurants pay a flat hourly wage to back of house employees while servers and front of house staff are paid through an hourly wage plus tips they earn for their service. We feel that our chefs, cooks and dishwashers work equally as hard and should also be rewarded for their service as well. The 4% charge will not only allow us to do this but also to provide benefits to our team members.
We want you to know where you are spending your money. Yes, we could raise our prices, but we feel that it is important to be transparent in what we are doing. We want our customers to feel good about supporting healthcare and living wage incomes for our employees.
We feel that this is the right amount. Enough to reward our employees and not too much to add to your bill. On a $50.00 tab, this amounts to $2.00. And $4.00 on a $100.00 tab.
Many service industries are adding separate charges and service fees in addition to their normal “menu” of services.. Some places will charge you an extra 3% when you use a credit card. Plumbers and electricians routinely add a travel charge to come to your home or place of business.
